Custodian (with Janitorial Duties)

The Opportunity:

We're looking for an experienced custodian to keep our facility running like a top, based in Virginia Beach, near the oceanfront. Our ideal candidate will love to keep things clean and orderly, and have an excellent attention to detail, plus punctuality you can count on to set your clock.

The Day to Day:

The focus of this job is keeping the workplace clean and organized while keeping logs and staying on top of all maintenance related functions of the facility. Coordinating with maintenance vendors is also important (we have various machines and appliances). While most duties concern the facility and fixtures inside it, the ideal candidate would also run various errands, such as trips to the hardware store, postal service, etc.. It's not only about staying on top of sanitation and maintenance and tidying up the office areas, it's also about enhancing the overall office experience for everyone.  

Work requires normal physical attributes necessary for walking, standing, sitting, operating office equipment, lifting, moving, and carrying light equipment and supplies, as well as kneeling to clean behind appliances.

The ideal candidate is an effective communicator (written and spoken) with enough organizational skills to work with outside vendors who need to assist in maintaining aspects of the facility from time to time. 


  • US Citizenship (authorized to work in the USA)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Professional experience with sanitation and with many different cleaning products
  • Professional experience maintaining a clean and healthy public environment
  • Experience budgeting and estimating various repairs
  • Experience shipping (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.)
  • Experience booking travel
  • Several positive personal or professional references


  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs and vacuums hallways, stairs, breakrooms and office spaces
  • Washes and sweeps inside facility and picks up discarded trash
  • Keeps grounds clean and free of debris
  • Ensures pest control systems are operating effectively
  • Mows lawns, trims shrubbery and cultivates flowers

Required Qualifications of the Custodian:

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to read and speak English
  • Ability to operate floor cleaning equipment and pallet jacks
  • Must be comfortable lifting 45 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable handling cleaning chemicals
  • Must be able and willing to complete a pre-employment background check and drug screen

Compensation and Experience:

  • Commensurate with prior experience, generally higher than the industry average
